Next.js announced a security release scheduled for August 26, 2026. It will concern branches 16.3 and 15.5 and must, in particular, address a critical vulnerability.

Prepare for update before publication

For a business application or a SaaS in production, this type of ad should not be treated as a simple dependency update. First of all, the applications involved must be inventoried, the versions deployed, and a upgrade branch must be prepared.

After the patches are published, the sensitive paths must be tested: authentication, rights, forms, payments, asynchronous processing and integrations. The deployment can then be carried out with a back-up procedure ready for use.

Maintenance is part of the product

The security of a web product does not stop when it is placed online. Frameworks, dependencies and environments continue to evolve; their follow-up must be organised, documented and associated with reproducible tests.
